My mom is an odd duck, she means well and she tries to be nice, but she's not always in touch with the rest of the world. She is always good for dry humour, a quick grin and a ton of big hugs and kisses that make *smack* noises in your ear like here mother's did--and the older she gets, the more they sound exactly like the ones her mother gave.
